Domaine de la Noblaie in Chinon, Loire Valley is run by Jérôme Billard and Élodie Peyrussie. Jérôme, who had gained experience mainly from Petrus (Bordeaux) and Dominus (Napa Valley California) as well as from New Zealand, came to Chinon in 2003 to help his father with his 50th harvest. After the harvest he realized that this was the domaine he would like to run and the beautiful Chinon was the place to live in.

The style of Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc wines are straight focused, balanced and very high quality and terroir driven.

More of History

As shown in the map of carte de cassini from 1765, La Noblaie area is some hundreds of years old. Lands of surrounding area were already booked for cultivation of the vine. Presses, vats and cellars carved out of the tufa are evidence of these past times.

After belonging to several owners, the Noblaie was acquired in 1952 by the Manzagol family.

In 1953, the vineyard produced three barrels from 5 hectares and was owned by Jacqueline and Pierre Manzagol who where cheese sellers in Poissy. During a trip to Chinon, they fell in love with this beautiful property.

La Noblaie very long time ago

La Noblaie in September 2021.

In 1968 Madeleine, their daughter, married François Billard, engineer from Bordeaux. François brought technical and professionnal knowledge to La Noblaie wines, giving them back all their glory. In 2000 la Noblaie operated 12 hectares of vines.

And then we go back to the beginning of this story. Jérôme, son of François and Madeleine, took charge in 2003 and since 2012 they have had 24 hectares of different soil parcels giving beautifully terroir driven characters to the wines.

Today Domaine de la Noblaie is one of the most famous and appreciated domaines at Chinon. If you are not sure, just go to Chinon center and ask from any locals. 🙂
