86 acres, 5 Grands Cru’s, 4 Lieux-dits (Premium Cru)

The Domaine Paul Blanck family winery is deeply influenced by the terroir areas which represent two thirds of the total acreage.

Trailblazers of the focus on the notion of terroir in Alsace, previous generations of Blanck’s have put their faith in the terroirs to give birth to authentic and natural wines. Winery has applied organic certificate and should receive it within a few years time.

Terroir has a big impact for character of the wine. The following characters have been noticed based on soil

  • Iron (colour intensity)
  • Limestone (wholeness)
  • Magnesium (harmony)
  • Silicate (fine and powerful)
  • Clay (sweetness and fermeté)

The terroir wines from the Domaine Paul Blanck are cellared for several years before being put to the market. The wines from these grapes are picked at optimal maturity, according to each specific area’s characteristics and the vintage’s climate profile, and are destined to complement and magnify the best gastronomy the world has to offer.

The poetic and creative essence of a terroir wine opens a wealth of sensations. Citrus, spices, smoked notes, salinity, fullness combined together to give substance and marked profile to wines which can be paired with a refined and authentic cuisine.

Generations of Winemakers

1610
The family’s Austrian ancestor Hans Blanck acquires his first vines in Alsace.

1846
Jacques Philippe Blanck is awarded a medal of recognition for his work as a winemaker.

1927
Paul Blanck and a handful of winemakers work towards the recognition of the Schlossberg as a standout vineyard and “terroir”.

1975 onwards

Bernard and Marcel Blanck, Paul’s sons, play a crucial role in supporting the award of the “GrandCru” appellation to the Schlossberg, the first area to receive the prestigious recognition in Alsace.

Nowadays, two generations are still active at the winery, with cousins Frédéric and Philippe running the operations. Family members all pitch in, each playing a different and complementary part, driven by a shared objective: to produce wines that provide intense emotions, crafted as true works of art.

“I am “impresario” of an artist” says Philippe Blanck, a tall man with warm smile. By artist, he refers to his first cousin Frédéric Blanck, the winemaker.

These fellows have worked together from 1988 and are still working at this very moment. Frédéric is a true artist working as winemaker and Philippe is a big philosophy and responsible of marketing. These remarkable cousins having big heart with a goal to offer quality wines for all wine lovers and I as the owner of WineConnection Finland, am very proud to be part of this lifetime project and import wines to Finnish wine lovers.
